Press Release

State House forming Advisory Team to investigate “Pay-to-Play” scandal involving $4M of taxpayer-funded contracts given to Hobbs’ political ally

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15

GILBERT, AZ—Congressman Andy Biggs released the following statement on the Arizona Legislature’s actions to hold Governor Katie Hobbs accountable for her latest scandal over a “pay-to-play” scheme as recently reported by the Arizona Republic:

“I applaud Speaker Steve Montenegro and the Arizona House of Representatives for forming an advisory team to further investigate the troubling accusations against Katie Hobbs of a pay-to-play scheme designed to send millions of taxpayer funds to her political allies. Arizonans need to trust that decisions with taxpayer funds are being made with their best interests in mind, not the bottom line of organizations who cut six-figure checks to fund Katie Hobbs and her campaign efforts. I also join Senator T.J. Shope in calling for public updates from the Arizona Attorney General and the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office on their investigations into this scandal.

We need to get answers on who was involved in making the decision to provide Sunshine Residential with a $4M pay increase and why this was done without reviewing the financial records of the organization in question. As Governor, I’ll push for increased disclosure of donations made to various campaign and legal funds from entities seeking government contracts by signing a bill like Senator T.J. Shope’s S.B. 1612 that Katie Hobbs vetoed.”
