A disastrous quarter for Hobbs, who remains under criminal investigation for an alleged pay-to-play scheme
GILBERT, AZ—Katie Hobbs lit $7.4M on fire during the second quarter of the 2026 cycle, stumbling into the general election after a 281% burn rate in the previous quarter. Hobbs’ fundraising lead over Congressman Andy Biggs shrank by nearly $5M and is now roughly a $1M cash on hand advantage, a pitiful number for an incumbent governor who has held statewide office for nearly a decade.
A significant portion of the wasted money appears to have been dedicated to an ad described by left-leaning local media outlet Phoenix New Times as “pretty bland” and “misleading”.
The disastrous finance report follows more terrible local media coverage for Hobbs over her refusal to commit to a debate and her defiant answers to the Arizona Republic over sitting down for an interview with Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes over Hobbs’ alleged involvement in a pay-to-play scheme.
“With a uninspiring record of 541 vetoes, 1 ongoing criminal investigation for alleged corruption, and 0 victories, Katie Hobbs is stuck burning through cash early on to remind voters she drove an Uber instead of doing anything substantive to improve the lives of Arizonans,” said Drew Sexton, senior advisor to the Biggs for Arizona campaign. “While Hobbs is stuck in reverse, Andy Biggs is uniting the Republican Party and building out his operation to hit the ground running for the general election.”
On the Republican side, Andy Biggs is in strong position to cruise to a primary victory on July 21st and posted his highest fundraising quarter of the cycle while continuing to build his cash on hand.
After a Clean Elections debate performance described as “smart” and dedicated to reaching Independent voters across Arizona, multiple polls have shown Biggs with a 50-point lead going into Tuesday’s primary election. Arizona-based pundits have recognized Biggs for running a “mistake-free” campaign and focusing on Katie Hobbs, the incumbent Governor who remains under criminal investigation for an alleged pay-to-play scheme.
