Debate Night Notes: Andy Biggs Takes Stage, Katie Hobbs Refuses to Commit to Debate

June 17, 2026
Press Release

Biggs remains as frontrunner for GOP nomination, plans to share vision to Restore the American Dream in Arizona

GILBERT, AZ—Congressman Andy Biggs, the frontrunner for the Arizona Republican gubernatorial nomination and former State Senate President, is taking the stage tonight at 6pm local time for the Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission Debate. The event, hosted by ACCEC and the Arizona Media Association, will be streamed online HERE.

While Biggs takes the stage to share his vision for Restoring the American Dream in the state, Arizonans should remember it has been 2,813 days since Katie Hobbs participated in a debate.

Senior Advisor and spokesperson for the Biggs for Arizona campaign Drew Sexton provided the following statement in advance of tonight’s debate:

“Andy Biggs is excited to articulate his plan to Restore the American Dream in Arizona for voters in every corner of our great state. There’s a clear contrast of his record of results through strong, steady leadership against the chaos and incompetence of Katie Hobbs, who remains under criminal investigation while Arizonans struggle to afford a home or pay their utility bills.

Thanks to the partnership between the Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission and the Arizona Media Association, tonight’s debate will have extraordinary reach and access for all Arizonans. With numerous outlets live-streaming the event, it’s the best forum for Andy to share his optimistic vision for the state with voters.”

The following notes should be used for background coverage of the debate:

BIGGS IS MOST ELECTABLE AND STRONGEST REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE

In every public poll of the Arizona Governor’s race since the beginning of 2025, Andy Biggs performs better against Katie Hobbs than any other Republican candidate and is the only Republican who has polled ahead of Hobbs.

BIGGS HOLDS SIGNIFICANT POLLING AND FUNDRAISING ADVANTAGE IN PRIMARY

At the end of Q1 2026, Biggs had $1.2 million cash on hand while his next closest opponent only reported $86K, a stark difference between the campaigns and who is best prepared to compete with Katie Hobbs in November.

BIGGS HAS COALESCED SUPPORT AND UNITED THE REPUBLICAN PARTY

Biggs holds endorsements from President Donald J. Trump, Charlie Kirk, Congressman Eli Crane, and dozens of other Republican elected officials including 45 current or former Arizona State Legislators.

BIGGS HITS THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL AND MEDIA CIRCUIT ACROSS ARIZONA

In the 48-hour lead-up to tonight’s debate, Biggs has made campaign stops in Prescott, Mesa, Sun City, Scottsdale, Phoenix and Laveen, as well as sitting down for interviews with Wake Up Tucson with Chris DeSimone, the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce “Let’s Talk Business” Podcast, and the Conservative Circus with James T. Harris on KFYI in Phoenix.
