After stalling and excuses from allies, Hobbs requests EPA waiver weeks after Andy Biggs called for action

GILBERT, AZ—A new story in the Arizona Republic revealed after Congressman Andy Biggs called for action on rising gas prices in Arizona with an EPA waiver request, Katie Hobbs “quietly” sent a letter doing just that after declining to take this step in 2023.

Congressman Biggs has been highlighting the rising cost of gas prices and its impact on Arizonans since last fall, calling for more pipelines, reexamining ADEQ standards, and working directly with oil & gas companies on innovative ways to get more gas into Arizona as California closes their refineries and drives prices up. For months, Arizona has had a much higher average gas price than the rest of the country while State House Republicans have introduced solutions to address this issue.

Unfortunately, this is another example of Katie Hobbs failing to lead when it comes to affordability for Arizonans,” said Congressman Biggs. “Our campaign has been calling on Hobbs for months to take action on rising energy and gas prices while her allies claimed nothing can be done by the Governor’s Office. This waiver request should have been completed a long time ago, along with implementing a clear and public strategy to shield Arizona families and businesses from rising prices. As Arizonans are negatively impacted by these gas prices, they should know Katie Hobbs didn’t act until it was too late.
